Cocktails for a Cure

On Thursday, February 24th the JDRF Dallas Chapter hosted its annual Cocktails for a Cure event. JDRF would like to thank Sharyl & John Weber for generously hosting the event in their home.

Over 80 JDRF supporters attended and enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a research presentation by Dr. Matthias von Herrath about some exciting new progress being made in diabetes research.

Stealing the show was 9 year old Kendall Tubbs, diagnosed at age 2, who shared her personal experience with type 1 diabetes.

Fund A Cure is an opportunity to make a donation that goes 100% directly to research and is 100% tax deductible.

This year, all Fund A Cure donations will go towards advancing the Artificial Pancreas Project. The Artificial Pancreas is a “closed-loop” device that would regulate glucose levels in the body of someone with diabetes by continuously measuring the level of glucose and dispensing doses of insulin based on those measurements. It will link an insulin pump to a continuous glucose monitor, providing the right amount of insulin at the right time, just as the pancreas does in people without diabetes.
