Dream Gala Honoree, Bret Michaels, Raising Awareness for Diabetes on CNN
Last week, on the Piers Morgan Tonight show, Bret Michaels, lead singer of the band Poison, gave the world a glimpse into the life of a person with type 1 diabetes. During one of the shows break he called for his diabetes kit so he could check his blood sugar, something he shared he does 8-10 times a day.
Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 6, Bret explained that “back in the old days” when he was diagnosed you tested your blood sugar, with a urine sample, “It was like a science experiment,” he said.
Bret shared that diabetes and managing diabetes is complicated and all about balance. But, Bret did credit his diabetes with helping him learn self-motivation and self-discipline.
Bret also talked about the heartbreaking moment when, while on the Celebrity Apprentice, he thought his daughter might be diagnosed with diabetes.
The Dallas Chapter of JDRF will be honoring Bret Michaels at the upcoming Dream Gala for the incredible exposure and awareness that he has generated for diabetes and for his commitment to raise funds to find a cure.
