JDRF Diabetes Research Day Luncheon

On Thursday, November 3, 2011 the JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter hosted the JDRF Diabetes Research Day Luncheon, at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The luncheon and program were presented by Animas & LifeScan; Johnson & Johnson family of diabetes companies.

Four hundred guests including community leaders, educators, medical professionals and other members of the diabetes community attended the event.

The special guest and keynote speaker was Natalie Strand, M.D., who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 12, and won the Amazing Race season 17. Dr. Strand shared the challenges and struggles she encountered while on the Amazing Race and how she never let her diabetes stop her from competing. Ken Moritsugu, M.D., Chairman of the J&J Diabetes Initiative and type 1 diabetic, spoke on recent advancements in research and technology that are helping those living with diabetes live longer and healthier lives until the cure is found.

The Honorable Delia D. Jasso, City of Dallas Council Member, District 1 and type 2 diabetic, promised to do her part to help educate the community on diabetes.

Kim Roosevelt, JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter Government Relations Chair, and her daughter, Elizabeth, spoke on the importance of advocacy and urged everyone in the audience to make a difference by registering to be an advocate.

Jim Baldwin, Board President of the JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter, presented awards to influential members of the JDRF community.
