Diabetes is just like our weather… unpredictable and challenging!

September 29, 2010

Thank you for all of the work you have done to support this year’s Greater Dallas Walk to Cure Diabetes. Our greatest disappointment is that the weather on Saturday did not allow us to fully celebrate our accomplishment of raising more money in support of diabetes research.

Those of you who were at Victory Plaza in Dallas and Granite Park in Plano showed real commitment to our cause under challenging conditions, and your safety was our primary concern. The Dallas site was hit even harder than the Plano location with awful conditions of lightening, thundering, intense rain and high winds. We were regretful to make this decision, but in the interest of everyone’s safety we had to close down Katy Trail at Victory Park. The storm in Plano let up just long enough for us to complete the walk, so we felt very lucky to have this small window of opportunity.

Diabetes can be a devastating disease, but there is hope. Scientists are making great strides in research.  The pledges you collect now will help further our research and aid us in finding a cure.

If you were unable to join us at the Walk To Cure Diabetes because of the weather or any other reason, know that we are still hoping for your support. Some walkers turned in donations before leaving Saturday, but many could not. If you have donations to turn in, you can still make a difference in support of our mission by forwarding them to JDRF as soon as possible!

We understand you might feel awkward asking people for money when you didn’t actually walk in the JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes. You are not alone! Your friends and neighbors are fulfilling their walking commitments in some fun and creative ways – walking in malls, at parks, around the neighborhood, on treadmills and around the workplace at lunchtime.

Please follow these steps when submitting your donations:

  • Gather the funds collected. Checks should be payable to JDRF.
  • Fill out and include the JDRF Walk Collection Form.
  • Drop off your envelope at JDRF between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday or mail it to:

JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter

9400 N. Central Expressway, Suite 1201

Dallas, TX 75231

  • If you are still collecting funds, we encourage you to go ahead and turn in the funds you have already collected and forward the remaining money once received.

  • If you have raised $100 or more, you are eligible for a JDRF Walk T-Shirt. Please arrange to pick-up your shirt from the JDRF Office during regular business hours or we will also have them available at the Walk Awards Ceremony.
