December 1, 2010

As an elite Ironman Triathlete, Jay Hewitt learned to visualize the Finish Line.

From his initial entry into the sport, to his membership on the U.S. National Team for Long Course Triathlon, racing in the Long Course Triathlon World Championships and 13 Ironman races around the world, nothing stops his progress, not his type 1 diabetes, or his successful law practice.

He was diagnosed at age 24 with type 1 diabetes and races to prove that diabetes cannot stop him from achieving his goals. His life’s calling is to inspire others to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.

Jay Hewitt speaking

“To me, racing Ironman with diabetes is an opportunity, not an obstacle. An opportunity to discover how strong you are, to prove that you have the discipline and determination to achieve your personal and professional goals no matter what the obstacles, and set an example for others. There will always be challenges in business and life so turn a negative into a positive. Use it as motivation. There are a lot worse things that could happen to us in life, so we must play the cards we are dealt. The more we must overcome, the greater the satisfaction and pride when we do. That pride lasts so much longer than the pain, and reaching your personal and business Finish Line requires balance, determination and Finish Line Vision.”  – Jay Hewitt from

The JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter was honored to have OmniPod bring in Jay Hewitt as the Keynote Speaker for The Mayor’s Passport to Health Community Luncheon on Wednesday, November 3. We would like to share the video from this event of Jay’s talk and please feel free to pass along to your friends and family. There is something for everyone to take away from his speech – we should all strive to have “Finish Line Vision” in everything that we do.
