Dallas Dad and Daughter Ride for the Cure, Recognized in Park Cities News

February 3, 2011

The “Dad and Daughter bond” is a timeless tradition. Jim Baldwin and his 18-year-old daughter, Sarah, have really made this concept take on new meaning. Spending time together becomes a real priority as Sarah prepares to go to college next year. Sarah, a senior at Highland Park High School and a crew team enthusiast, is also a type 1 diabetic. Jim and Sarah became involved in JDRF after Sarah was diagnosed with Type 1. Though Sarah works diligently to manage her disease proactively, being athletic and an honor student keeps her on her toes.
Jim is Chief Legal Officer of DPSG and the President of JDRF‘s Dallas Board of Directors. As President, Jim is active in chapter business, fundraising and development. Since JDRF is all about research and as the leading private funder of diabetes research in the world, JDRF depends on professional volunteers to keep its research agenda front and center.

Jim and Sarah are both overachievers and share a love for the outdoors and excellence and recently participated in the JDRF Ride together in Tucson in November as their last pre-college Dad/Daughter experience.

“We love JDRF and believe in their research first and foremost. But to be able to also do something this adventurous with my daughter for JDRF, and for our Dad-Daughter bonding before she goes away to college meant the world to me,” said Jim.

Sarah echoes her father’s dedication.

“In my college essay, I said my Dad is my true hero. But to do something this challenging together and for JDRF just makes me feel even luckier to have such a wonderful Dad and role model.”

Both Jim and Sarah encourage others who have interest in supporting diabetes research to become involved in future events. JDRF Ride Events are scheduled throughout the country and the new dates and locations for 2011 were recently released.
