JDRF Dallas Advocates Make a Difference in Congress
In June 2011, five year old Carson Stiglets and his family will travel to Capitol Hill and join 150 children from across the country to testify before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs on the need for funding type 1 diabetes research. Carson was selected to serve as the 2011 Children’s Congress delegate and represent the JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter.
Children’s Congress is held every other year and is the largest grassroots event held in support of type 1 research. The Stiglets live in Prosper, Texas, in Congressman Ralph Hall’s district and hope to educate Congress on type 1 diabetes and its significant complications. They also want everyone to understand that curing diabetes will save the healthcare system millions of dollars because it is an extremely costly disease. The Stiglets will also be meeting with Congressman Hall, in-district, as part of the Promise to Remember Me campaign. The Greater Dallas Chapter congratulates the Stiglets family in their efforts to remind Congress and the Administration of the critical need to find better treatments and a cure for a disease millions live with every day – type 1 diabetes.
