August 4, 2011

On April 9, 2011, the Brothers of DEPsi’s Beta Chapter held a 5k charity run, Dash for Diabetes. The event raised awareness of type 1 diabetes as well as funds for JDRF. With over 250 people in attendance, the Dash for Diabetes brought people together from all over the community, including participants from Wichita Falls, Texas. The attendees included the former Mayor of Richardson Gary Slagel, City Council Member Amir Omar, Dean of Students Dr. Gene Fitch, as well JDRF Dallas Board Member Ken Conway and various other community and campus leaders.

The Dash for Diabetes raised $1,500 and has been adopted by Delta Epsilon Psi as a National signature service event. The event was very successful. The official check was presented to the JDRF Dallas Chapter on July 27th, 2011. The future of Dash for Diabetes is very promising with hopes of hosting it at DEPsi’s chapters in New Jersey and Florida.
