Scott & White hosts JDRF Mentor Training in Temple to expand program

March 13, 2012

On Tuesday, March 6, 2012, the JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter hosted a Mentor Training alongside McLane Children’s Hospital Scott & White in Temple, TX. Jeanine Connolly, MA, Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern of and JDRF Volunteer Outreach Mentor Co-Chair, led a wonderful session with a great group of T1D families who will be volunteering their time and talents in helping mentor others who are looking for support.

JDRF and Scott & White’s Pediatric Endocrinology Team are excited to be partnering to offer their patients and local T1D community an option for Outreach Support. The JDRF Mentor Program matches individuals and families looking for support with others that have lived with diabetes. JDRF Mentors are the voices of experience and hope for those facing an unfamiliar lifestyle after diagnosis or during a new stage of their child’s life. It’s about sharing, helping, listening, and new friendships with people who understand the ever-changing demands of living with T1D. The JDRF Mentor Program is volunteer driven and led by Mentor Chairs, Jeanine Connolly and Anoma Amerasekera.

JDRF would like to welcome and thank our new Outreach Mentors for taking a step toward making a difference in the lives of those looking for support. We would also like to thank Scott & White, Dr. Matthew Stephen and Nenita Torres for hosting the event at the new McLane Children’s Hospital. A special thank you also goes to Kristen Pool for sharing information about JDRF’s School Walk Program, Schlotzsky’s of Temple for providing a fantastic dinner for the meeting and Jeanine Connolly, Mentor Co-Chair and devoted JDRF Volunteer for leading the training session.
